Over the past 10 years AFL Cape York Ltd has been providing employment opportunities for Indigenous people. Predominately throughout Australia, AFL is the sport of choice for Indigenous Australians.

We have led the way in promoting a positive image of Indigenous Australia and we are now seeking to consolidate and develop our Indigenous programs to ensure further engagement, development and employment. AFL Cape York Ltd employs 19 staff in which 7 are indigenous. We are actively seeking further partnerships with Indigenous and Government Community to develop our broader Indigenous frame work.

AFL Cape York is committed to deliver long term career opportunities for participants of the AFL Kickstart program. This can come from AFL Sports Ready Traineeships which are offered to suitable applicants who have demonstrated role model qualities and commitment to completing Year 12.

Generally trainees have come through the Crusader development pathway and scholarship programs which gives perspective Trainees, a good understanding of the healthy lifestyle and smart choices program which we conduct. In turn a new trainee goes from being a student of our program to a teacher of our program. AFL Sports Ready Trainees undertake Cert 1,2,3,4 or Diploma in Sport and Recreation courses which will give them qualifications to administer and roll out programs.
